Mile Board

94 WHL Bayou Boeuf Locks

Chart Number

11355

Problem

Rocks pose hazard to barges. South fender severely damaged, leaving nothing to land on when coming into the locks.

Recommendation

Continue to study ways to pad or cover large rock riprap. Gravel-size crushed stone used in this area should be expanded to other areas. Extend the guidewall and install cement column like the one on the north wall.

Status

North point has been covered with crushed gravel. Five mooring buoys have been installed at the west approach channel.

CLOSED

Action Plan

A contract is ongoing for construction of a new SW guidewall and dolphin, which should effectively resolve this problem. Scheduled completion is end of 2001.

Mile Board

219 - 220 WHL Creole Bridge to east on the North Bank

Chart Number

11348

Problem

Rocks for erosion control are parallel to channel 80'-100' from the bank. Not visible during high tides, hazy conditions, or at night.

Recommendation

Establish warning signs using the same plan used on the Port Allen Route. Gravel or a smooth material to protect barges from incidental contact should cover rocks. Also Creole Bridge fendering should be lighted due to erosion of the bank

Status

October 1996, reported to Corps. Note that lighting of Creole Bridge is in the Coast Guard section of the Navigation Problems Report, and has been completed.

CLOSED

Action Plan

Signs are scheduled for delivery in mid-August. Installation will follow soon after delivery. The recommendation to place small graded rock over the rock dikes is being addresses through the Corps' participation on the CWPPRA task force, which is scheduled to meet 7 Aug 2001. The Corps has no authority to light the Creole Bridge. This should be referred to the bridge owner or the Coast Guard.
