The mission of the Gulf Intracoastal Canal Association
is to ensure the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway is maintained, operated
and improved to provide the safest, most efficient, economical and
environmentally-sound water transportation route in our nation,
serving petrochemical facilities, refineries, farms, mines, ports,
commercial fisheries, recreation and more.

Identifying, analyzing, addressing and publicizing
issues that affect the waterway, its shippers and users.

Building a growing community of support through education
of its members, prospective members, community groups and relevant
government officials.

Ensuring an adequate, continuous flow of federal funds
for both maintenance and construction by convincing the appropriate
congressional committees of the soundness of continued investment
in the waterway.

Working in concert with other regional and national
industry organizations, supporting them in their efforts and seeking
their assistance when necessary.

Actively pursuing innovative, economical and environmentally
acceptable methods of maintaining the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway,
its tributaries and ports.

Developing "common sense" methods to preserve,
protect, enhance and restore coastal wetlands and other valuable
environmental resources by reaching consensus with responsible governmental
agencies and private sector groups.

|
Forcefully advocating the value of the Gulf Intracoastal
Waterway and opposing initiatives that would unfairly burden its
shippers, operators or sponsors with unjustified costs.

Identifying existing physical hazards and other opportunities
to improve the safety and efficiency of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway;
informing its members and working with the Coast
Guard and Corps
to accomplish the needed improvements.

Our Vision

The vision of the Gulf Intracoastal Canal Association
is to become the respected, objective, authoritative voice for inland
waterway navigation on the Gulf Coast. Working within the marine
community and reaching out beyond it, the association ensures stability
and growth of an industry that benefits all. The association provides
members with a unique value for their dues investment, makes participation
rewarding, and holds honor for its leadership.
